Travel insurance, check! Car insurance, check!

Passport… check! Euros… check! Flip-flops… check! Travel insurance… check!

When you’re preparing for your holidays, these items always seem to feature on that at all important ‘to do’ list. But what about car insurance? Many people simply don’t think twice about revving up and checking whether or not their existing policy enables them to drive abroad.

“If you’re holidaying outside the UK this summer, it’s best not to assume that you and your family will be fully protected. The latest figures suggest that one sixth of motor insurance policies do not automatically cover you in full when motoring on the continent; unless you’re prepared to cough up more money.

“Of course, it’s hugely exciting to think about exploring the South of France, cruising around Italy’s mountainous regions, or making a road trip along Spanish coastal routes. But remember that if your existing car insurance policy only offers third-party cover, or cover for just a few days on the continent, you could face huge repair bills if work is needed following a bump, scrape or accident.

“Holidays are lots of fun, but the run-up can sometimes be stressful with so many things to do. It really is worth spending just that little bit of time checking your motor insurance small print so you don’t get caught out.

“And if you’ve got any worries or concerns, get in touch, we’re always happy to help. Whether it’s finding the correct cover for your holiday or your car, let us take the hassle out of the situation, so you can continue with that all important packing.”  Sharron Torr is Private Client Supervisor at Russell Scanlan, one of the UK’s leading independent insurance broking and risk managing firms.
